Auxiliary Equipment Operator

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operates a sanitation truck with packer and follows an established route in the pick-up of refuse;
• Operates a dump truck to resolve buck pick-up requests and hauls construction materials;
• Operates a dump truck with snow plow or other snow removal equipment; ensures equipment is attached efficiently;
• Performs seasonal tasks, including but not limited to grass cutting, leaf raking and collection and snow removal;
• Operates and performs minor maintenance on hand and power equipment such as power saws, chippers, hand saws, pruning hooks, earth augers, etc.;
• Assists with clearing and cutting timber or bush, including topping, shaping, thinning, and pruning trees;
• Assists with loading and unloading waste materials; and
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements ?

Qualifications:

• Ability to work evening and night shifts as necessary to resolve snow emergency situations;
• Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of various trucks, such as refuse, dump, crew van-type and pickup, utility tractors and/or other similar or related equipment;
• Working knowledge of loading methods and techniques;
• Skilled in the operation of attachments to vehicles;
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor while loading and unloading vehicles and as otherwise assigned;
• Working knowledge of hazards and related safety precautions involved in the operation of vehicles and equipment; and
• Ability to operate equipment skillfully and safely.

Education and/or

Experience Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited high school with a diploma or equivalent; some experience in the operation of various trucks or related maintenance equipment.

Certification:

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator?s License (Class A- Restricted Commercial Driver?s License) with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
