Job Description
This is semi-skilled work involving the operation of trucks, vans, and light equipment used in transportation, maintenance, and/or construction. Work is performed according to established procedures with frequent inspections during progress and upon completion of assignments. Immediate supervision is received from an administrative superior; supervision may be exercised over General Service Employees assigned to specific tasks. Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Drives small truck or van to transport medical and office supplies, merchandise, or trash to designated locations.
- Drives bus or van to transport residents and personnel of a state institution to and from activities outside the facility's grounds.
- Operates a self-propelled sweeper for cleaning pavement prior to asphalt repair.
- Operates pneumatic tire and steel wheel rollers to compact asphalt.
- Operates a four-wheel tractor-pulling mower to trim grass along highways.
- Drives dump or flat-bed truck to transport highway construction and maintenance materials or equipment.
- Loads and unloads truck or van.
- Performs minor vehicle maintenance tasks such as changing tires, changing oil and oil filter, and tightening belts.
- Washes vehicle and cleans interior.
- Maintains sound working condition of vehicle by checking and correcting air pressure in tires, checking and correcting oil level, and refueling as necessary.
- Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
