Job Description

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
This is manual work in the collection of residential garbage, trash, and other solid waste, in containers, bags and cans. Work requires frequent heavy lifting and occasional exposure to bad weather conditions. Work is performed as a member of a team assigned to a truck and under the general supervision of the crew leader.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
On an assigned route, collects containerized, bagged, or spilled garbage and places it into packer truck; returns permanent containers to original locations; collects trash and waste from roadsides and right-of-way. Operates packing device on truck to compress garbage; rides rear platform of truck to pick-up locations. Assists driver in backing and turning in difficult locations through direction of traffic and advice to the truck driver. Washes truck upon completion of work. Reports equipment damage or malfunction to the truck driver. Performs other duties as assigned.

to: Practices and procedures followed in maintenance operations. Perform semi-skilled general maintenance and construction tasks; perform heavy physical labor. Skill in customer service and communicating with customers. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to read maps to find service addresses. Ability to work well within a team environment and independently. Ability to serve as first responder to all emergency calls including weekly scheduled on-call after-hours emergencies.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High School Diploma or G.E.D or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREDERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of Commercial Driver's License Class B Two (2) years of considerable experience in Operations and Maintenance of Collection Systems.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid Mississippi Driver's License and acceptable
MVR. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Direct deposit and social security card are required. A one-year probationary period may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Environment:
Work is primarily performed outside in and around heavy traffic in sometimes adverse weather conditions. Work exposes the employee to hazards associated with traffic, chemicals, fumes, bees, dust, vibrations from machinery or blasting, and loud noise levels. Protective equipment is required such as gloves, orange vests protective eyewear, work shoes or boots and coveralls. The employee must occasionally travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, and verbally communicate to exchange information.
Physical:
Work requires the physical ability to perform heavy and sustained lifting and carrying of equipment, materials, and supplies; physical exertion requiring crawling, pushing and pulling; and standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Work also involves walking on uneven terrain; squatting, bending and stooping; and climbing on and off of machinery and lifting of objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
