(Department of Transportation) regulations DOT Physical Certification Attention to detail Organizational skills Vehicle codes Loader operation Cargo securement protocols Full Job Description Skye Equipment Sales & Rentals is seeking a dependable, safety-focused, and motivated Heavy Haul Truck Driver to join our growing team. This position is responsible for the safe transportation, loading & unloading of construction equipment throughout North Carolina and occasionally to neighboring states. Your expertise will ensure timely deliveries, proper load handling, and adherence to safety standards. Most trips are completed within the same day, with no overnight hauling required. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy construction equipment, possess excellent customer service skills, and take pride in maintaining a professional appearance and safe work environment. Responsibilities Safely transport construction equipment to and from customer job sites, rental locations, and company facilities. Operate a variety of construction equipment including: Excavators Bulldozers Wheel loaders Haul trucks Skid steers and compact equipment Properly load, secure, transport, and unload equipment in compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations. Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Conduct equipment inspections upon delivery and pickup, documenting any damage, wear, or operational concerns. Complete delivery paperwork, inspection reports, and required transportation documentation. Communicate professionally with customers regarding delivery schedules and equipment operation questions. Maintain cleanliness and general condition of assigned truck and trailer. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Assist with yard operations and equipment preparation when not making deliveries. Qualifications Valid Class A CDL. Clean driving record with a strong commitment to safety. Experience hauling heavy equipment preferred. Ability to safely operate construction equipment for loading and unloading purposes. Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations. Ability to perform equipment inspections and identify basic maintenance or damage issues. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent customer service and communication abilities. Ability to work independently and manage daily routes efficiently. Requirements Must pass a pre-employment drug screening. Must meet all FMCSA requirements and maintain a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate. Ability to safely lift, climb, secure loads, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Preferred Experience Heavy haul or lowboy trailer experience. Construction equipment transportation experience. Knowledge of excavators, dozers, wheel loaders, rollers, and other heavy equipment. Experience with load securement and oversized load procedures.
