M-S 8:30 a.m - 4:30 p.m. at New Bern Family Store -
New Bern, NC Position Type :
Regular Full Time About this opportunity: Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards; assists in performing work in the thrift/family store and warehouse.
When needed:
Sorting responsibilities; receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. Cleans and maintains the stores and storage facilities. Key Responsibilities Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions. Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted. Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety. Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same. Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse. Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed. Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies. Sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks Helps in producing bales from unsold clothing for loading on truck No formal education required, AND Six (6) months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
