Job Description Position involves the operation of a large roll-off container truck in the completion of recycling collection routes and emptying roll-off containers at Landfill. This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, Phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Typical Duties Operates a truck on designated routes emptying recycling containers and depositing recyclables in their prospective locations. Maintains safe operating procedures, cautious of overhead utilities, gas meters, and other employees.
May be required to mow weeds and grass and pick up litter from fields and fence lines to maintain Landfill property in a clean and sanitary condition. Utilizes shovels, pitchforks, rakes and small power tools such as saws and mowers.
May be required to operate tractors with attachments such as mowers, loaders, and chippers as well as scrapers, loaders, dozers, and compactors as needed.
Cleans and services city equipment and machinery and assists with minor repairs and submits request to Shop Division for major repairs. Periodically assists in oil change and flat tire repairs on Landfill vehicles.
Performs manual work incidental to the Landfill Division and Public Works Department. Provides both written and verbal reports on property damage and accidents to Superintendent immediately upon occurrence. May be required to perform other assigned duties as designated by the Landfill Superintendent and his assistant.
Must use city provided safety equipment, wear in accordance to the rules and regulations as stated in the City of Clovis Safety Manual. Requirements Minimum Qualifications
No specific educational requirement. One-year experience as an operator of large commercial trucks, or equivalent. Experience demonstrating knowledge of maintenance and operation of large trucks, heavy equipment, and various hand and power tools. Licenses and Certificates Valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements
Landfill Operator
- or must be able to obtain within one (1) year.
Landfill Manager Certification

Compost Certification-preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Department rules and regulations and contingency plans.
Skills in:
Safe operation of heavy equipment, hand and power tools.
Ability to:
Follow instructions, proper cell development, operate computer, and basic office equipment including scale. Physical RequirementsModerately heavy work involving frequent standing, walking on uneven surfaces, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items occasionally weighing up to 100 pounds.
Working ConditionsRegular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies. Essential duties are predominantly performed outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions. Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment. Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required.
