Job Description

Overview Hershey Excavating is seeking a dedicated Lowboy Driver to join our transportation team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating specialized lowboy trailer and drop deck trailer to transport heavy equipment, machinery, and oversized loads across various routes. This role requires a high level of professionalism, safety awareness, and technical driving skills. As a Lowboy Driver, you will play a vital role in ensuring the timely and secure delivery of equipment, supporting our commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities Operate lowboy trailer and drop deck trailer equipped for hauling heavy machinery, construction equipment, and oversized loads with precision and safety. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, proper functioning, and compliance with regulations. Load and unload construction freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts, skidloader, wheel loaders and backhoes when necessary. Plan routes efficiently to optimize delivery times while adhering to safety protocols and legal weight limits. Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, load details, and delivery documentation in accordance with federal and state regulations. Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and team members regarding schedules, load status, and any issues encountered during transit. Ensure compliance with all transportation laws, safety standards, and company policies at all times. Assist with maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues promptly to ensure vehicle reliability. Requirements Valid class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with endorsements suitable for operating lowboy trailers and heavy equipment transport. Proven 5 years experience in truck driving, particularly with tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tanker trucks, or dump trucks. Demonstrated knowledge of manual transmission operation. Familiarity with freight handling including load & unload procedures using forklifts or roll-off trucks Ability to operate all equipment for loading or unloading. Strong understanding of safety regulations related to commercial driving and heavy haul transportation.
