PUBLIC WORKS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR/LABORER/DRIVER
Springfield Township is seeking applications for a full-time position in the Public Works Department. Candidates must hold a Class B Driver's License. Experience with dump truck and snow plow operations. The Township is willing to train successful candidates. The duties of this position consist of, but are not limited to, tree trimming and removal, installing blacktop, storm piping replacements, building maintenance, line painting, winter roadway maintenance, vehicle/equipment maintenance, snow plowing and salting and responding to inclement weather events and emergencies. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly and must have the ability to deal tactfully with the public and other employees. Minimum qualifications include High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience. Must have a valid PA Driver's License. Must be able to pass random drug test and physical exam. Salary Range is $22.50 to $24.50 per hour.

DESCRIPTION
An employee in the position of Public Works Operator/Laborer/Driver performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled road duties requiring strenuous physical effort and frequent exposure to inclement working conditions.
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
The employee reports and receives work assignments from the Public Works Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Operate road department vehicles and tractors in safe and productive manner. General Township property and perform road maintenance and repair including, but not limited to: Operating heavy equipment, such as backhoes and loaders Driving trucks Road paving, patching, raking and crack sealing of roadways Installation and repair of street signs General repair and maintenance of Township vehicles, equipment and building/facilities Remove trees and/or branches from roadways Assist in traffic control as needed General cleaning and washing of vehicles and equipment General clean up of garage Light carpentry work Move heavy boxes or equipment and large bulky objects Snow plowing Apply salt/cinders as instructed Perform and/or assist in mowing program Maintaining and repairing park facilities/trails Perform other tasks as assigned by the Public Works Director
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
: Knowledge of and experience in using a variety of hand and power tools including, but not limited to: mowers, saws, trimmers, etc. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Ability to work independently without constant supervision Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods, often under adverse climatic conditions Ability to learn the operations of special road department equipment such as spreader, steam cleaner, air compressor, jack hammer, power washer, etc. Ability to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day Ability to respond to call out at any hour of any day or night Ability to operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner Ability to walk, lift and bend while carrying heavy objects Ability to learn and perform new tasks, and show initiative to perform these tasks without direct supervision Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to lift heavy objects and work under adverse weather conditions.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Commercial Drivers License Class B with airbrake endorsement.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Two (2) years CDL experience (certification) and road maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to interact professionally with Township residents and businesses.
