Palmetto Goodwill - 2.9 Charleston, SC Job Details Full-time 22 hours ago Qualifications Automobile transportation City street navigation Customer communication Basic math In-person customer service Moving Adhering to traffic regulations English CDL A Route planning Map reading DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations DOT Physical Certification Team training Straight truck Full Job Description Responsible for the pick‐up and delivery of donated items from households, community yard sales, estate cleanouts, attended donation centers, warehouses and retail stores. Operate tractor and box truck in safe manner abiding by all applicable State and local transportation rules and regulations. Perform daily pre‐trip inspections on vehicle prior to starting route. Maintain daily log of scheduled stops. Keeps truck clean inside and out. Maintain constant communication with Dispatcher via telephone. Transports shipments to specified destinations. Drives truck to destination and collects materials. Prepares records of materials collected at each location. Loads donated items into trucks, distributing weight evenly, forming a compact load and securing materials during transit. Unloads merchandise from trucks and donation centers and moves to designated area. Removes donated items and trash from collection sites to maintain the site in a clean and orderly condition. Haul trash and scrap metal as authorized. Return salvage to centralized warehouse. Perform daily post‐ trip inspections on vehicle and notify the supervisor of any concerns. Ensure that first aid kit and fire extinguisher are maintained, (i.e. order supplies, check inspection date on fire extinguisher). Report known or suspected security and/or theft problems to the leadership.
Requirements:
Must possess a valid Class A CDL driver's license. Must be DOT Certified. Must maintain a safe driving record (as determined by the agency's insurance carrier) and provide a copy of the 10‐year Motor Vehicle Report history. Ability to operate a combination tractor trailer and straight truck, meet all DOT requirements and pass a driver's skills test. Ability to perform some training, checking or verifying of the work of others. Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds and carry it 50 feet. Must be able to read a map and organize daily route schedule. Must be familiar with Tri‐County area. Must be able to pass drug‐screening procedure. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Ability to read and write English and comprehend simple instructions. Ability to effectively present standard information in one‐on‐one situations to customers and other employees of the organization using tact, courtesy and cooperativeness. Ability to perform basic addition and subtraction. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
