For questions, Please email recruiting-usa@formeld.com Formel D is seeking a qualified CDL-A Driver to support the testing and validation of autonomous Class 8 commercial vehicles for a leading automotive technology customer in New Braunfels, TX. The driver will serve as the designated safety driver for autonomous truck testing activities, operating and monitoring test vehicles during both public road and closed-course test track evaluations. This role requires a highly safety-conscious professional with strong situational awareness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work closely with engineering teams in a technology development environment. The position is primarily based in New Braunfels, TX and includes occasional overnight travel (up to 50%) to support testing activities at various off-site locations. Key Responsibilities Serve as the safety driver for autonomous Class 8 commercial truck testing activities. Operate test vehicles on public roads and closed-course test tracks while following established test procedures and safety protocols. Monitor vehicle behavior and maintain constant situational awareness during autonomous system evaluations. Take immediate control of the vehicle whenever required to ensure safe operation. Work closely with customer test engineers and development teams during testing activities. Participate in project meetings, test reviews, and engineering discussions. Provide detailed verbal and written feedback regarding vehicle and software performance. Complete required reports and documentation related to test activities and observed system behavior. Support vehicle preparation and pre-trip inspections prior to testing. Maintain compliance with all DOT regulations, company procedures, and customer safety requirements. Support occasional evening, weekend, and travel-based testing activities as required. Refuel vehicles as needed and maintain basic upkeep of assigned equipment. Required Qualifications Valid CDL license with trailer towing experience. Current DOT Medical Card and all required compliance documentation. Clean driving record and strong safety history. Minimum 3 years of experience operating Class 8 commercial vehicles. Strong understanding of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle operations. Excellent situational awareness and defensive driving skills. Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and technical teams. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured testing procedures. Ability to travel overnight up to 50% as required. Ability to successfully complete customer-specific training and certification programs. Ability to perform light vehicle preparation and inspection tasks. Reliable, punctual, and capable of maintaining consistent route performance. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting vehicle testing, validation, or development programs. Experience operating advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) or autonomous vehicle technologies. Familiarity with test documentation and reporting processes. Previous experience working in an engineering, validation, or automotive development environment.
