 April 30, 2026 JOB SUMMARY The Driver provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services for agency clients, including individuals with disabilities, older adults, and other passengers as assigned. Responsibilities include operating agency vehicles, assisting passengers, adhering to safety procedures, maintaining accurate trip documentation, and complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies.
TASKS AND DUTIES

  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Must hold a valid Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (provided at agency expense).
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with all drug/alcohol testing requirements during employment.
  • Must comply with all Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, as well as agency policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to speak English for safety-critical communication. Professional Conduct
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect when interacting with clients, coworkers, and the public.
  • Maintain clean, appropriate personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Maintain effective communication, organizational and basic computer skills.
  • Regular, predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Transportation Duties
  • Provide safe transportation to clients Monday through Saturday, including holidays, with work hours ranging in shifts from 3:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Drive within local communities, surrounding counties, and to larger regional cities such as Odessa, Midland, San Angelo, Lubbock, and Abilene.
  • Assist all passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, including leaving the driver seat to open/close doors.
  • Operate agency vehicles safely and defensively at all times.
  • Maneuver, secure, and transport wheelchairs and other mobility devices in accordance with training and agency standards.
  • Conduct and document daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; sanitize vehicles at least once daily or more frequently as required.
  • Immediately report accidents, incidents, medical or behavioral concerns to supervisor.
  • Using proper procedure, promptly report vehicle maintenance issues to Fleet Management.
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding schedule deviations, early or late arrivals, destination changes, and availability for additional trips.
  • Log all trips accurately using the mobile tablet system; paper logs used only when electronic systems are unavailable.
  • Collect and document fares according to agency procedures.
  • Complete written incident or accident reports to supervisor on the same day the event occurs.
  • Successfully complete all required agency training, including Passenger Assistance and Safety, Proper Transfer and Securement of Mobility Aids and Wheelchairs, CPR and First Aid, Blood borne Pathogens, HIV/AIDS, Cultural Diversity, Defensive Driving, Confidentiality and HIPAA, Sexual Harassment Prevention, and Substance Abuse.
Additional training covers the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Child and Adult Abuse Recognition and Reporting, Emergency Vehicle Evacuation, Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Vehicle Inspections, and Fire Safety. Refresher training required as scheduled.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 25 years of age.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Push, pull, lift (using lift/ramp), and secure wheelchairs up to 400 lbs. combined weight using proper equipment.
  • Lift and secure items (walkers, strollers, mobility aids) up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, stretching, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Sit and operate a vehicle for 6-8 hours per day.
  • Exposure to weather extremes, vehicle vibration, fumes, dust, noise, and traffic.
  • Manual dexterity for operating lifts, securing belts, and using tablets and phones.
  • Ability to manually operate the hydraulic equipment in the event of system failure.
Work Environment Work involves driving in both urban and rural areas across the agency's 17-county service region. Drivers frequently travel long distances to larger connecting cities and are regularly exposed to varied road and weather conditions. The role requires extended periods of driving, frequent client interaction, and consistent adherence to safety protocols
