Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Transfer Driver safely operates a tractor-trailer on an assigned route and transports collected solid waste to a transfer station or landfill. This position is responsible for following all safety regulations, conducting vehicle inspections, maintaining required records, and providing reliable service to customers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operate tractor-trailer truck and on-board hydraulic systems on assigned route to collect solid waste on a specified collection route. Make sure each load is secure by checking that the tarp is closed properly and that no loose trash is visible. Complete pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and reports, daily truck report, route sheets and other documentation requested by supervisor daily. Communicate vehicle mechanical problems to mechanic and supervisor immediately. Maintain route quality standards as predetermined by management. Operate truck and equipment using prescribed techniques to eliminate driver-induced mechanical failures. Comply with all federal, state, local and company rules on safety and vehicle operation.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Make special pick-ups as needed. Interacts in a professional and courteous manner with customers. Maintain clean vehicle by cleaning cab interior and exterior of vehicle. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently leaving a 15-foot clearance from all vehicles. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work safely and follow safety practices and techniques. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, and the general public. Knowledge of mechanical operations and safety functions of all equipment, including driving, backing, loading, lifting and use of other vehicle functions. Ability to drive and operate the equipment safely in all weather or under all conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum 18 years. High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an approved CDL Class A training program with doubles/triples endorsements required. Experience operating Class A vehicles, including driving with doubles and triples, is preferred but not required. Satisfactory driving record. Must pass a DOT physical, and drug screen.
