POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing specialized work involving assistance with the installation, maintenance, and diagnostics of electrical/electronic traffic control devices, and the associated control equipment including traffic signals, signs, and pavement markings on both County and State maintained routes within the County. This position reports to the Signal Technician Supervisor Work is performed outdoors, occasionally in inclement weather. The incumbent is exposed to noise, dirt, dust, machinery and its moving parts, as well as occasional irritating chemicals. Physical demands include intermittent standing, stooping, walking, bending, stretching, and the ability to exert or lift 50 pounds or more. The position requires sitting and riding for lengths of time in a motor vehicle, as well as working with live electrical components and working from elevated buckets and platforms. The incumbent must be able to distinguish varying shades of color.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Assists with the installation, operation, and maintenance of traffic signals and associated control equipment on both County and State maintained routes within the County. Assist with diagnosing malfunctions and in evaluating and setting functions within Traffic Control Signal devices. Places and maintains temporary Traffic Control Devices in and along roadways in/around work sites. Operates a bucket truck and other equipment such as pickups, trenchers, line locaters, hand tools, and additional test equipment as required. Operates electronic diagnostics equipment to facilitate necessary repairs of field equipment. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, maintenance records, or other documentsas required. Requires availability for after normal business hour call out in case of emergencies. Performs other related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to learn County policies and procedures. Ability to learn operation, maintenance and diagnostic procedures in relation to electrical/electronic traffic control devices. Ability to learn the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Ability to learn to operate an aerial bucket truck. Ability to learn how to install, troubleshoot, and maintain a vast array of electronic devices and related software installed in traffic cabinets. Skill in oral and written communication.DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required. Supplemental vocational/technical training in electrical, electronics, or experience in Traffic Control Systems desired. Must be able to receive valid IMSA Work Zone certification, IMSA Level I Traffic Signal certification, and possess or have ability to obtain a Georgia Commercial class A Driver's License within first eighteen (18) months of employment.
