Job Description
Assist Stranded Motorists
- Assist stranded motorists by changing tires, providing basic mechanical assistance, giving directions, and removing disabled vehicles from the roadway. Provide transportation to a safe location when necessary. Protect motorists
- Protect motorists by directing traffic around crash scenes through the placement of traffic cones, flares, and electronic signage. Provide CPR and first aid until first responders arrive. Monitor Road Conditions
- Report problems with road conditions such as weather-related hazards and remove road debris.
Position Summary:
Assist motorists with vehicle and travel problems by fixing tires; providing basic temporary mechanical assistance, directions, gasoline, water/antifreeze; removing disabled vehicles from the highway; calling for wrecker service. Assist motorist at traffic crashes; protect the crash scene; call for law enforcement officers, service vehicles or emergency vehicles; provides emergency first aide/ CPR to victims of crashes until medical personnel arrive; move involved vehicles to shoulder of roadway. Provide transportation of motorists to nearest service station/motels/other shelter. Reports problems with general highway conditions. Checks all unattended vehicles in order to inform dispatchers and law enforcement officers. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Regular, reliable, dependable, performance is an essential function. Constant contact with general public for the purpose of assisting stranded motorist. Exposure to hazards due to traffic accidents, incorrect driving actions of others, working in adverse weather conditions.Daily use of:
Agency vehicle, two-way radio, tire jack, jumper cables, four-way wrench and miscellaneous other small tools. Post offer,Pre-employment Requirements:
Must submit to and pass a background check, including fingerprints.Ability to:
Lift, turn, carry, set, pull, and push up to 75 lbs. or more (wheel/tire, floor jack). Stoop, bend, turn, reach and twist with arms and body. Climb into bed of truck. Lift, rotate, swing, and set up to 20 lbs.(traffic cones). Squat, kneel, climb/reach under. Pull and set cables. Run controls and use hand tools. Drive a truck, sit for long periods of time, move in confined areas, and perform repetitive motions with one or more extremity. Listen, comprehend, respond, speak clearly and concisely, communicate effectively, with fellow employees and the general public.
