Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The City of Rochester invites applications for: Traffic Seasonal Help (Summer 2026) The City of Rochester is committed to a community where all members feel a sense of belonging. The Public Works Department, as a division of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, is responsible for planning, programming, designing, constructing, and maintaining right of way infrastructure. This includes street infrastructure, street lighting, traffic control, sanitary and storm water, and waste water treatment facilities, as well as on-street and off-street parking. The Traffic Division of the Public Works Department is seeking individuals for seasonal employment during the 2026 construction season. This is a great opportunity to work outdoors and gain municipal and construction field experience in areas such as: installation and repair of street signs, painting of pavement markings, and setup of temporary traffic control operations. Each day you will be helping provide meaningful service to the residents and visitors of Rochester.
Pay Scale:
$15.76 to $18.29 per hour depending on education / experience.
Work Schedule:
Normal work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30p.m. Occasional shifts may be required between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Nature of Work The individuals that are chosen for these positions will be assisting maintenance staff completing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance of traffic control devices. These positions will assist the maintenance crews on the day to day tasks listed below. Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. F1 OPT STEM. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties will vary with position assignment. Assigned duties will primarily include assisting the street maintenance crews with the following: Perform or assist in getting all needed tools and equipment ready at the beginning of the day. Clean up and put away vehicles and equipment at the end of each day. Inspect and repair existing street signs, fabricate and install new street signs, and install parking meter posts. Assist with installation of pavement markings including painting long lines and symbols (arrows, crosswalks, bike lane markings, parking lines, etc). Perform or assist in temporary traffic control operations such as: setting up/taking down signs, cones and operating a pickup with arrow board. Perform other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Be at least 16 years of age
Desirable Qualifications:
Valid driver's license
