Job Details:
This position starts at $25.51 $1,500 Stay Bonus paid in 6 months after hire. Drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,000 GVW, to transport finished product, raw materials and packaging within NRH complex. Requires commercial drivers' license. Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods with a tractor trailer, including the relative costs and benefits. On-Property Driver is responsible for the movement and spotting of trailers to facilitate the needs of the plant in sorting and processing material(s) for shipment or storage. Driver is responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of on-hand trailer pool and positioning. Must have the ability to acknowledge and recognize hazards on the property; vehicle traffic areas; pedestrian traffic areas; proper load/cargo securement; maximum speed limits; and safe docking operations. Tasks
  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate when warranted.
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
  • Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Couple and uncouple trailers by connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Crank trailer landing gear up and down to safely secure vehicles (when applicable).
  • Follow special procedures related to specific cargo, such as checking refrigeration systems, etc.
  • Maintain logs of working hours (when applicable) and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned including wheel chocks.
  • Operate equipment such as two way radios to exchange necessary information with supervisors, dock personnel, or other drivers.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding oil, fuel, and radiator fluid, or performing minor repairs.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using load locks, blocks, chain, binders, and/or covers.

Work with minimal supervision making sure all requirements and activities are met in timely manner. Work Activities Drive tractor-trailer truck with capacity greater than 3 tons Use truck-mounted hydraulic lifts or other accessories Use established traffic or transportation procedures Move or lift heavy objects Maintain driver log according to I.C.C. regulations (when applicable) Follow traffic laws Operate cleaning equipment for washing out trailers Use safety equipment Work as a team member Perform safety inspections in transportation setting Examine vehicle to detect malfunctions, damage, or maintenance needed Maintain records Sweep/Clean outside dock and surrounding areas During daily downtime, will work w/ Shipping/Receiving to learn SAP computer functionality (Process BOL's, receiving raw materials, etc.) Wash out Trailers Has a current Driver's license, which is not suspended, revoked or cancelled Has no DWI/DUI conviction within the previous 12 months Fewer than four (4) points according to the Tyson Yard/Lot Driver Evaluation System Must receive Facility-specific training A documented, basic vehicle operation skills and abilities evaluation must be performed prior to authorizing them to drive independently
