Job Description
The Powertrain Controls Engineer will work within a team of Powertrain controls, calibrations and integration engineers to develop electrified powertrain systems for current and next-generation electrified powertrains for Stellantis NV vehicles. The overall goal for the team is to develop a complete electrified powertrain that meets the vehicle functional requirements for fuel economy, emissions, drivability, and diagnostics.
The ideal candidate, who must be a strong team player and willing to work in a fast paced environment, will be involved in developing controls strategies related to strategic optimization of engine speed, gear, powertrain state, engine torque optimization, and tactical torque controls for drivability management, brake regeneration controls and hybrid shift execution strategies. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in modeling of mechanical transmission systems and be familiar with using lever analogy principles for determining dynamic torque and speed relations used extensively across hybrid torque controls. The Powertrain Controls Engineer Senior will work closely with a cross functional team, utilizing various tools (vehicle, HIL, Dyno, Virtual, rapid prototyping) through the V-model development process to ensure quality and robustness of the production algorithms. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Model mechanical systems to simulate and understand requirements in Simulink for control purposesInterface with systems and calibration to fully understand the requirementsDevelop implementation strategiesAssess and document the impacts against regulatory requirementMarkup simulink models to ensure the design meets functional/operational requirementsValidate the design during the production processEnsure project is on track by developing plans, track progress, and present technical report to management and project chiefsParticipate in the decision making process on controls strategy design to achieve functional objectives
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university with 10+ Years Automotive ExperienceSpecialization in classical and modern control disciplines with vehicle applicationEmbedded software experienceExperience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINKExperience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS-INCADemonstrated technical problem solvingStrong overall knowledge of vehicle and powertrain functionsExperience with modeling, simulation, development, testing, calibration and/or validationOutstanding interpersonal and problem solving skills8+ years experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university with 5+ years' experienceSpecialization in hybrid torque control disciplinesKnowledge of powertrain control system architecture/best practices.
