Locomotive Engineer Ossipee, NH 03864 Full-time Full-time Locomotive Engineer Job description New Hampshire Northcoast Corporation, a Boston Sand & Gravel Company, is seeking an experienced Locomotive Engineer to join our team! This is a hands-on position that requires mechanical knowledge, air brake expertise, and experience operating heavy equipment. The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for operating a diesel-electric locomotive, interpreting train orders, train signals, and railroad rules and regulations to transport freight in a timely manner. Key Responsibilities Perform pre-trip inspections of locomotives and railcars Operate trains in accordance with company policies and procedures Monitor train performance and make adjustments as necessary Communicate with dispatchers, conductors, and other crew members via radio or hand signals Receive starting signal from conductor and moves controls, such as throttle and airbrakes, to operate locomotive Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on equipment as required Qualifications and Requirements East Coast Locomotive Engineer Certification required Minimum of 2 years' experience preferred High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Mechanical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot issues Proficiency in air brake systems Must pass background screening including motor vehicle driving history Must pass pre-employment drug test Subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing Must pass all required assessments Complete annual training and pass safety rules examinations Strong adherence to work place safety standards Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environment Excellent communication skills with ability to work effectively as part of a team
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Full-time:
M-F 7am -7pm Work hours may occasionally include nights, weekends and holidays Must be able to safely report to work within two hours of being notified to report in Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, push, pull, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl Work in cramped, confined or enclosed spaces Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment, loud noise, dust, irritants, fumes, fuel odor, uneven ground, and other outdoor weather conditions Will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, reflective vests, safety boots, hearing protection and gloves as per Company requirements About Boston Sand & Gravel
