Job Description

The Public Works Department will hire one (1) mechanic for a six (6) month temporary assignment, during the peak summer season, typically from May-October. Hours of work will be from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Duties include performing basic mechanic work on a wide variety of City vehicles and other equipment. Inspect, repair and/or change brakes, steering, suspension, tires. Work requires manual dexterity, walking, standing, bending, stooping, working overhead, as well as the ability to move 50 pounds. Responsible for cleaning, painting and maintaining City vehicles and equipment. Operate various mowers, edger and weed-eaters. Operate hand and power tools. Drive City vehicles or move equipment. Operate vehicles up to 1-ton. Assist with traffic control. Wash and wax City vehicles. Follow proper safety instructions. Wash windows and other miscellaneous tasks as required. Possible exposure to noxious materials while using required safety gear.
Associated Job Functions:
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Must have at least six (6) months experience in lube, service and preventative maintenance for automotive vehicles and/or large trucks and equipment. Must be able to operate a variety of hand, power and air tools and equipment. Must have basic knowledge of brake systems. Must have current Washington State Driver's License and pass driver?s record check. Must be able and willing to follow all safety instructions and procedures. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. City provides employees with coveralls, required safety gear and all tools. Employees will not be allowed to drive any large pieces of equipment outside the City maintenance facilities and are only allowed to operate vehicles that are 1-ton or smaller. This position is a seasonal temporary position with no guarantee to be extended or re-hired. Must pass a Criminal Background and a Drivers Abstract check prior to hire.
