Job Description
Learn how Metro connects you with what matters King County Metro Transit Rail Division is looking for dependable, detail-oriented Rail Maintenance Service Center Workers. Rail Maintenance Service Center Workers communicate with multiple Rail sections, including Sound Transit and King County Transit at all levels for special materials management-related projects, requisitioning parts, warranty administration, and creating Excel reports pertaining to inventory and/or finance. Additional responsibilities include maintaining inventory, issuing and receiving parts, purchasing, maintaining stock levels, and opening and closing work orders. About Metro Transit's Expanding Rail Division King County Metro's Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transit's Link Light Rail, a growing network spanning 60 miles and serving 38 stations across the Puget Sound region. Who May Apply This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants, both internal and external. It will be used to fill three (3) current Career Service vacancies at Rail, and may be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future Career Service and/or temporary vacancies that may occur over the next twelve months. This position is considered safety sensitive. Formal offers will be finalized after candidates have successfully completed any necessary pre-employment processes (which can include but is not limited to a physical examination, a drug and alcohol test, a reference check/internal record review and a review of the applicant's driving record). S ubsequent to commencement of employment, candidate will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols. Work Schedule This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Employees will work a 40-hour per week schedule with two consecutive days off. The w ork schedule may include non•standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Schedules are based on a seniority "pick" system , which occurs 2 times per year.
Salary:
Per the union contract shift differentials are paid to those working second and third shifts. Shift pay is 5% for second shift and 7.5% for third shift, on top of hourly pay. Upon successful completion of Metro's driver's training, or if you have a valid Washington State Class B CDL, w ith airbrake endorsement , hires will have additional premium pay up to $2.00 per hour added to their wage rate .Current wage rates:

As the Rail Maintenance Service Worker, you will: Purchase consumables and like products via P-card. Process Invoices for goods and services creating requisitions using our Oracle system. Reconcile or track budgets relating to purchase expenses. Issue materials, supplies, and equipment; sort and stock items in designated areas. Verify items received by description, Purchase Order number, MFR. part number and quantity then records receipt. Conduct and record physical inventory of stock items on a regular basis using cycle counting procedures. Coordinate shipping and receiving of calibrated tools upon return; ship defective parts to vendors for repairs or overhaul. Assist Chiefs in research MMIS and presenting findings to minimize discrepancies and maintain inventory integrity. Practice first in and first out procedures when stocking new inventory. Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, electric pallet jack and electric pallet stacker Using a van or box truck to pick up and deliver parts and other driving duties. Example of driving duties to include but are not limited to: Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned vehicle Drive vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs. MSC CDL Drivers will be transporting loads of many different shapes and sizes with load weights ranging between 500lbs and 14,000lbs Pick-up and safely transport goods, etc. to the intended destination Ensure contents are properly secured in a truck or flatbed to prevent damage/injury Follow and maintain loading/unloading protocols, using chains and binders to secure cargo, and re-checking their stability throughout trips Confirm that the contents of each shipment load match the manifest document Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip Check weather conditions and road reports before departure Notify Lead/Chief of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered Adhere to rules and regulations Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Intermediate experience with materials management and purchasing of parts, materials, supplies, and equipment. Knowledge and experience applying stocking and inventory control principles. Knowledge of or familiarity with common parts, materials, equipment, and supplies. Experience tracking and shipping/receiving warranty parts to manufacturers. Experience working with Maintenance Management Information Systems (MMIS) used for parts ordering, inventory management, and purchasing, and/or similar electronic systems. Experience effectively using MS Excel to create spreadsheets, using formulas, producing reports, etc. Experience effectively communication orally and in writing to diverse audiences within an organization. Experience successfully establishing and maintaining working relationships; including working effectively with a diverse population in varying occupations or situations. Ability to learn how to use MS Suite applications like MS Word, Outlook, and Teams Excellent customer service skills Desired Qualifications Intermediate skills using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Prior Metro Transit experience is highly desired. Valid Class A or B CDL Necessary Special Requirements Must pass drug and alcohol testing provision for safety sensitive position as required by U.S. Department of Transportation, 49 CFR Parts 40 and 655 A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record. If you possess an out-of-state driver's license, you must obtain a WA state license within 30 days of hire. Ability to operate forklifts (training will be provided by Rail). The ability to obtain/maintain a CDL License will be required. Ability to obtain the following within 6 months of hire (training will be provided): Applicants must also possess a Washington State Class "A" or Class "B" commercial driver's license (CDL) with air brake endorsement and maintain an acceptable driving record Applicants without a valid Class "A" or "B" CDL must possess a Washington State Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP), class "A" or "B", with air brake endorsement, by the time a conditional offer of employment is extended, and must be able to obtain their full Class "A" or "B" CDL with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire.Please Note:
For more information on how to obtain a CLP in Washington State, please visit DOL CLP Testing Crane Certification Physical Requirements The job requires basic levels of physical skill, including regular kneeling, bending, squatting, reaching above and below the waist, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. It will also require occasional lifting and carrying of items, weighing up to 100 pounds, with assistance and/or with the use of material handling equipment. It may also include pick-up, moving/transferring, and delivery of parts. Work Environment Work is performed in an industrial setting where the worker is exposed to or near heavy operating machinery, high voltage, adverse weather conditions, uneven surfaces; catwalks/metal grating, noxious or toxic gasses and chemicals. The noise level is quiet to occasionally loud. Hearing protection and eye protection are required in some areas, and hard hats and other appropriate personal protective equipment may be required on occasion.
