State of Nevada (NV) Reno, NV Job Details Full-time $48,566.88 - $70,992.00 a year 2 days ago Qualifications Vehicle emissions checks Emission testing Research regulatory compliance Pollution regulations Full Job Description JOB This position is located in our Reno DMV Office within the Compliance Enforcement Division. The appointee will perform job duties such as maintain relations and provides information to the public, licensees, and other agencies in a professional and courteous manner. Incumbents will also carry out duties such as process, evaluate, report, and disseminate public complaints, assist in developing and updating procedures for tasks specific to the emission control section, compiling statistical reports, reviewing licensee application paperwork, maintaining data of licensees, maintain equipment used within the emission control section and an inventory of related supplies, conduct research, write reports of findings, carry out project assignments related to the section, prepare vehicles and documentation to implement covert audits of licensees, testify as a witness for the Division in enforcement proceedings, and assist in the testing and approval of equipment and software related to the emissions program. Emission Control Technicians perform a variety of inspection, investigation, and technical assistance activities to ensure compliance of state-licensed emission control stations and emission control inspectors with federal and State laws and regulations regarding vehicle emissions, and to assist and inform the public regarding the state's emission control program.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
An Associate of Arts degree in automotive technology and one year of current journey-level mechanic experience at a licensed facility; OR two years of experience as described above; OR possession of the following three Automotive Service Excellence certificates: 1) Engine Performance, 2) Advanced Engine Performance, and 3) Engine Repair; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. All of the preceding ways of qualifying for this class also require direct public contact experience.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Working knowledge of: vehicle emission systems component devices; automobile engine operations particularly as related to the fuel and exhaust systems; tools and equipment used in automotive shops for testing engine operations; basic automotive repair procedures.
Ability to:
independently operate tools and equipment used in diagnosing and identifying problems in a vehicle emission system; read, interpret, and communicate regulatory requirements necessary to fully instruct licensee applicants; evaluate specific vehicles for compliance with emission control regulations and identify deficiencies; independently research and apply specifications from automotive technical manuals for a wide variety of vehicles.
