FRC Track Inspectors typically work independently to fulfill their inspection obligations, but may also support project managers in project planning, mark out work at jobsites, assist in inspection of prospective projects, and support track crews and foremen when defects need repaired. The successful Track Inspector will ensure an understanding and adherence to all safety needs/regulations, will be a clear communicator, have initiative and able to be a self-starter, and provide timely and complete inspection reports. After 6 months of employment, the Track Inspector will receive a $1,000 signing bonus. About Fritz-Rumer-Cooke-Co., Inc. In continuous operation for 147 years, FRC is managed by the 5th and 6th generations of the Cooke family along with a group of dedicated and experienced employees. Our services include railroad track design, construction, repair, and inspections, as well as vegetation control and bridge track work. Due to the professionalism and dedication of the entire team we are continuously recognized as safety leaders, most recently as a 2024 Gold Safety Award winner from the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association. Job Duties Job duties include, but are not limited to: Complete track inspections as scheduled to ensure track is in compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as company and customer requirements Provide timely and complete inspection reports, and follow-up with customers when further actions are needed Perform remedial repairs to defects when required; direct foreman and track crews in the repair of defects, as required Assist Project Managers to plan projects, inspect prospective jobs, and gather information relating to bid projects Focus on safety Operate tools, equipment, and company vehicles in conformity with manufacturer requirements, FRC policies, motor vehicle laws, safety requirements, and any site-specific regulations Complete and submit reports, accounting, payroll, and other administrative forms Attend safety meetings, inspection team meetings, and other company meetings as scheduled Work Conditions Travel to outdoor field locations in all types of weather, with some office time for meetings, reports, etc. Track Inspections may be performed in these locations: on or along railroad tracks that may be active during work times; on a railroad bridge, elevated walkway, or other areas of bridge structure; near or in coal/mineral mine site locations; wide geographical area requiring travel and overnight stays Work may expose Track Inspector to dust, railroad train traffic, highway traffic, loud noises, slippery or uneven footing Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used as required, which may include hard hat, hi-viz outwear, safety glasses with side-shields, metatarsal guard safety work boots, etc. FRC will provide hard hats, non-prescription safety glasses and hi-viz vest at no charge; if metatarsal boots are required, they may be purchased through the company with 50% reimbursed after 90 days of employment Physical requirements include: frequent standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and similar movements; continuous sitting during training, when completing paperwork, traveling to/from jobsites, and operating equipment Travel is required, with overnight stays possible Required Qualifications 18 years of age or older Must have at least 1 year of experience or more in railroad track maintenance under current traffic conditions Must pass exams/courses and recertify as appropriate, including FRA Part 213 track safety standards for initial track inspector certification (recertify every 2 years); Continuous welded rail (CWR) (recertify every year); Testing to qualify with current FRA Safe Worker Rules (recertify every year) Demonstrate ability to identify track defects and make remedial repairs through field exam Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record Can communicate clearly and effectively with other team members, FRC management and administration, customers, subcontractors and vendors Assist all coworkers in performance of duties as needed Willing and able to abide by all safety regulations of FRC, customers, OSHA, MSHA, and FRA Attend all trainings/classes as scheduled by FRC and pass required exams, including but not limited to Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Safe Worker Training Able to pass federal drug and alcohol testing (pre-hire, random, post-accident, for cause, client contractual, etc.) Able to perform work duties in conditions as described above Benefits Rate commensurate with experience and eligible for increases after successful 90-day orientation period. Signing bonus of $1,000 after 6 months of employment.
