LEAD MECHANIC PUPIL TRANSPORTATION CENTER 8 HOURS PER DAY KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 Ability to lift up to 50 lb. on regular basis.  Ability to lift up to 75 lb. occasionally.  Ability to work in awkward positions.  Ability to work in areas with limited access.  Must be available to work all shifts.  Must be able to work with constant interruptions.  Must be able to safely operate medium duty commercial vehicles.  Must have a high degree of common sense.  Must be able to work independently.  Ability to read effectively.  Ability to write legibly.  Basic computer skills.  Ability to communicate effectively.  Knowledge of school bus specific criteria.  Knowledge of vehicle inspection criteria  Knowledge of standard practices related to maintenance and repairs of fleet and facility.  Knowledge of safety procedures, including OSHA and L&I regulations.  In-depth knowledge of vehicle systems.  In-depth knowledge of vehicle repair procedures.  Knowledge of precision measuring tools.

CERTIFICATION

 First Aid certification or can obtain  CPR certification or can obtain  Must have a Commercial Drivers License with class B endorsement, air brake endorsement, passenger endorsement, school bus endorsement or able to obtain one.  Possess or obtain Air Brake inspector certification card, (49CFR306.25).  ASE Master Certification Preferred  Forklift certification Preferred

POSSIBLE OVERTIME SITUATIONS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Direct other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.  Manage the shop schedule for both vehicles and personnel.  Drive school bus on route as assigned.  Maintain Fuel System records for compliance.  Manage PTC inventory.  Assist in PTC budgeting.  District vehicle accident investigator. Attends each vehicle accident scene to document and investigate. Submit completed report of findings and pictures.  On call after hours for bus and vehicle needs in and out of district.  Orders parts to stock inventory and repair vehicles and facility.  Maintains District equipment for PTC.  Is punctual and timely and manages shop staff in that as well.  Communicates and interacts productively with other staff;  Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation;  Maintains records of repairs, cost, warranties, etc. for the purpose of documenting required information to meet district, state, and federal requirements;  Use of computers and technology to update and repair vehicles and equipment, fleet management software, fuel system records, etc.  Fabricates parts for the purpose of providing items necessary for repairs;  Performs body, paint and upholstery work;  Steam cleans vehicles, ensures vehicles are kept to cleanliness standards;  Repairs vehicle system and components and replaces defective parts for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles in a safe operating condition;  Inspects vehicles and implements preventative maintenance to ensure that the vehicle is in a safe operating condition;  Diagnoses potential vehicle malfunctions for the purpose of determining need for vehicle repairs or replacement;  Maintains safe work practices, tools, equipment, and work area for the purpose of improving productivity and reducing hazards to staff; and  Perform other duties as assigned.

Wages:
