Job Summary:
We are currently hiring a Scale Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately weighing all inbound and outbound vehicles using our scale system, maintaining precise and up to date records, and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. You will also be the first point of contact for incoming customer calls related to dumping procedures, pricing, and general inquiries, providing accurate information in a professional and courteous manner. This position is essential to maintaining efficient site operations during business hours. The Scale Operator plays a key role in tracking materials, ensuring billing accuracy, and keeping truck traffic organized and flowing safely. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment are critical to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate the truck scale system to weigh and record all incoming and outgoing vehicles. Answer all incoming phone calls in a timely and professional manner, assisting customers with inquiries related to dumping procedures, pricing, hours of operation, and general site information. Input data into the computer system and ensure accuracy of tickets, invoices, and reports. Verify load contents and ensure drivers are following proper disposal or pick up protocols. Communicate with drivers, dispatchers, and site supervisors to ensure safe and timely processing. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the scale house. Monitor site security and report any unusual activity during overnight hours. Perform basic troubleshooting of scale software/hardware or escalate as needed. Generate end of shift reports summarizing activities and totals. Comply with all safety procedures and company policies.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Previous experience in a similar role or in a waste management setting preferred. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, scale software experience a plus). Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Willingness to work in an outdoor/industrial environment and during overnight hours.
Working Conditions:
Working Hours - To be discussed during the interview process. Majority of time spent in a scale house/booth with exposure to outdoor conditions. May require sitting for extended periods.
