Traffic Control Superintendent
Greer SC

The Superintendent is responsible for the overall management and coordination of traffic control operations across multiple projects to ensure the safety of the traveling public, employees, and equipment. This role oversees traffic control planning, crew supervision, compliance with regulatory standards, and coordination with project teams and external agencies. The Traffic Control Superintendent ensures all traffic control operations are executed efficiently, meet project schedules, and align with company safety and quality standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee and manage all traffic control activities for assigned projects.
Develop and review traffic control plans in compliance with MUTCD standards, DOT regulations, and project requirements.
Supervise and coordinate multiple traffic control crews, including Traffic Control Leads and Flaggers.
Schedule personnel, equipment, and materials to ensure timely setup, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices.
Conduct regular inspections of job sites to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with project managers, foremen, and subcontractors to align traffic control operations with construction activities.
Serve as the primary liaison with DOT representatives, law enforcement, and local authorities regarding traffic management.
Train and mentor traffic control staff on safety procedures, proper equipment use, and job expectations.
Maintain accurate records of crew assignments, equipment usage, inspections, and incidents.
Monitor budget and resource usage to ensure cost-effective operations.
Respond to emergencies or unplanned traffic situations and implement corrective actions promptly.
Position Requirements Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, transportation, or related field preferred.
5+ years of traffic control experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or management role.
Knowledge of MUTCD standards, DOT regulations, and best practices for traffic control operations.
Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification or equivalent preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans, project drawings, and specifications.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with scheduling and project management software preferred.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
Ability to walk, stand, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs. during site inspections.
Frequent exposure to loud noise, moving traffic, and heavy equipment.
Ability to work long or irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as project schedules require.
