Job Description

Seeking a self motivated individual who can work at a fast paced auto dealership and is familiar with cars. Job consists of cleaning offices, waxing cars, running errands and any other general tasks. driving record and background check must me clean. Full time position. Car Upkeep A central part of the porter's job is to keep all new and used vehicles looking sharp when customers arrive. Much of his typical day is spent hosing off and cleaning the exterior of vehicles and wiping down and cleaning out the interiors. Additionally, the porter checks the washer fluids and other basic fluids in the cars to make sure they are filled for test drives. He also performs simple, basic maintenance, such as battery replacement. Lot Presentation Often before working on individual cars, the porter helps to get the lot in clean and marketable condition. In all-weather climates, the porter has the responsibility for snow removal and debris cleanup after snowstorms. Porters may also power wash the car lot and surrounding sidewalks periodically to pick up any dirt and grime. The general manager may also have the porter periodically move or rearrange vehicles for sales or for lot reorganization. Other Duties Much of the rest of what porters do falls into the category of "other duties as assigned." At dealerships with service departments, the porter may move vehicles into and out of the service garage. Porters also commonly place materials into vehicles before they are place on the car lot. These include car manuals, sale tags, dealer place mats and air fresheners. The porter may also help run errands for car registration and supply pick-ups. Some basic car knowledge is helpful, though training is provided during the first several days on the job. A porter must also provide a valid copy of a driver's license since he will regularly operate vehicles at work. A good work ethic and willingness to perform various duties as assigned are general qualities desired.
