Job Description

A cover letter is required for consideration for this position and should be attached as the first page of your resume. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position. Assist guests and visitors by opening doors, answering questions, and providing emergency and directional assistance. Assist or carry patients and visitors from or into private cars and ambulances, stretchers, and wheelchairs. Escort patients and visitors to and from designated locations. Notify drivers of vehicles of parking violations and inform the appropriate departments if not corrected. Coordinate parking operations by directing vehicles to parking spaces and ensuring maximum utilization of available space. Ensure access to the building and driveway by moving traffic. Maintain the entrance area by sweeping the entrance and removing trash from the ground. Maintain a supply of clean and usable wheelchairs and stretchers at the entrance. Provide assistance in emergency disaster programs. High School Diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to tolerate outside adverse weather conditions. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients/visitors. Must be able to work effectively within a team environment. Must be able to read and write English. Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities, including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc. Computer knowledge. Must be able to lift patients in/out of vehicles, wheelchairs, etc. Must be able to pass a criminal history check. Preferred candidate with previous hospital or public service experience.
Standard hours:
40 Work days/times: Tuesday-Saturday 4:00 pm-12:30 am This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
