- This position is a split shift, working in the morning and the afternoon.
- The eligibility list created from this recruitment will be active for six months.
- Positions 20 hours+ are benefit eligible
- Purpose Statement The job of Bus Transportation Aide is done for the purposes of providing support within the transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting students in special education during transport to and from school and/or special activities; monitoring, assisting, and caring for students.

Valid certifications of First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED must be obtained within the first six months of employment or be submitted at the time of application. Only certifications provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or District approved provider for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED will be accepted. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment. Required Testing Pre-Employment Proficiency Test Clearances Pre-Employment Fingerprinting TB Testing Continuing Educ/Training Mandated Reporter Training Certificates Valid certifications provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or Save-A-Life Educators in First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED must be obtained within the first six months of employment or be submitted at the time of application. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment. Supplemental Information Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform single tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating equipment used in transporting students with special needs; and administering first aid when required.KNOWLEDGE
is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures; age appropriate activities/behaviors; rules/regulations/policies related to student safety; general knowledge of child guidance, motivational principles for students with special education needs; District special education processes; and bus transportation protocols for students. ABILITY is required to use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: observing health and safety regulations; understanding and relating to students with disabilities; working as part of a team; implementing required intervention processes; assessing issues; and providing solutions. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Hazards Riding in a vehicle during adverse weather conditions. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and contact with bodily fluids. Potential for contact with physically aggressive student behavior. In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 of the official salary range designated for the position. Any variances in initial placement are addressed in, and shall be carried out in agreement with, this rule.
