Job Description
The Carry All/Van Driver operates a passenger van to provide curb to curb transportation services for campers and/or staff to various camps/other locations as assigned. This position requires that all State of Connecticut and Federal Motor Vehicle laws be followed. The driver is responsible for ensuring proper safe driving practices and regulations are followed at all times. Requires ability to drive in adverse conditions (rain, wind, snow, heavy traffic, etc.) The driver conducts daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle to ensure its safe operation, and must report any concerns to the manager immediately. The driver is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the inside and outside of the van. This includes sweeping and washing the inside/outside of the van and keeping windows clean and free from dirt. While performing the duties of this job, the driver is regularly required to speak and hear information through communication with campers, parents, staff, and the public. Must have the ability to interact with youth campers, parents, staff, and the public. Must be able to promote a positive image of the town and department through behavior, language, and appearance. The driver must have the ability to solve practical problems within the scope of the job and be able to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as maps, run sheets, safety procedures, and operating/maintenance manuals. The driver is responsible for writing up routine reports. Attends all scheduled training and safety meetings. The driver may perform other duties, as assigned.
Physical demands:
Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel objects or controls and reach with hands and arms. Will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. Will frequently repeat the same hand, arm and or finger motion many times over a day. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. May be required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the driver occasionally works in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees and occasionally will walk on wet or slippery surfaces. Must be able to meet deadlines and interact with campers, parents, staff, and the public. The driver has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.Similar jobs in Middletown, CT
