Van Driver School Administrative Unit 6
Job Description:
Van Driver Classification:
Non-Exempt, Hourly Reports To:
Transportation Director Location:
District-Wide Job Summary The Van Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school, athletic events, and special education placements. The driver must maintain a safe environment on the vehicle and ensure compliance with all state and federal traffic laws and District policies.
Education, Certification, and Licensure:
NH school bus certificate (SBC) is required. Training is provided.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Student Transportation:
Operate a District-owned van to transport students over scheduled routes and/or to special excursions.
Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to all New Hampshire Rules of the Road and Department of Safety regulations. Ensure students remain seated and follow safety protocols while the vehicle is in motion.
Vehicle Inspection:
Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (checking tires, lights, fuel, oil, and brakes). Report any mechanical defects to the Transportation Coordinator immediately.
Student Management:
Maintain order and discipline among students. Report any significant behavioral incidents to the building Principal or Transportation Coordinator.
Emergency Procedures:
Follow established procedures in the case of a breakdown, accident, or medical emergency.
Cleanliness:
Maintain the interior and exterior cleanliness of the vehicle.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate mileage logs, student attendance counts, and fuel receipts as required by the District.
Physical Requirements Vision/Hearing:
Must pass the physical exam requirements of RSA 200:36, including vision and hearing standards.
Mobility:
Ability to climb in and out of the vehicle and assist students with boarding or exiting if necessary (including operating wheelchair lifts/tie-downs if assigned to a specialized van).
Environment:
Exposure to various weather conditions and traffic noise. Pre-Employment Contingencies Successful completion of a Criminal Background Check and Fingerprinting. Completion of the SAU #6 Physical Examination Submission of an official driving record from the NH Department of Safety. SAU #6 is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
