GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of Manager of Transportation. The Transportation Float's job function is to transport mail, materials, linen, and Pharmacy medications throughout all facilities of SOMC and other locations as designated including patient addresses. The Transportation Float also drives passenger buses to transport employees and students from offsite parking lots to the Main campus and transports employees between campuses. Assists in maintaining vehicle maintenance logs and tallying riders. The Transportation Float also Monitors/maintains designated parking areas and entrances to Medical Office Buildings. Directs drivers of vehicles to appropriate parking areas. Provides Valet parking services to patients and visitors. Provides information and assistance to employees, visitors, and patients. Keeps front entrances free of parked cars or other obstructions blocking the flow of traffic. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent
High School Exam Required Licensure:
• BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC insurance carriers) • BLS/AED training course within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
• Previous experience in driving delivery vehicles preferred.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Collects postal mail from post office, delivers to both hospital campus mailrooms and sorts per department. 2. Transports linen, interoffice mail, medical records, x-ray films and reports and distributes within S.O.M.C. facilities. 3. Transports legal and confidential material for
S.O.M.C. 4.
Transports small portable patient equipment and materials within the healthcare facilities of
S.O.M.C. 5.
Transports biological specimens and bio-hazardous materials to and from various locations for
S.O.M.C. 6.
Delivers materials to financial institutions. 7. Delivers Pharmacy medications to SOMC locations and patient addresses. Collects copays as necessary. 8. Completes daily vehicle condition report and recommends or requests appropriate maintenance to be performed. 9. Prepares and maintains accurate transportation logs and other data as required. 10. Maintains designated parking area and entrances that Valet Services are offered (keeps area free of parked cars/congestion, litter, leaves, snow, etc). Cleans front glass and sweeps entries as needed. 11. Acts as greeter/ambassador for SOMC and its physician offices. Assists in meeting customer needs and service recovery as appropriate. 12. Park and retrieve patients/visitors vehicles in a timely manner ensuring the utmost in vehicle safety. 13. Provides vehicle claim check and instructs patients/visitors on how to reclaim vehicle. 14. Provides directions, parking alternatives and campus information upon request to visitors, delivery drivers, students, staff, and patients. 15. Watches parking lots and garages for suspicious activity and reports such to hospital security. 16. Enforces SOMC parking policies and traffic flow. 17. Able to assist elderly or handicap patients with providing them a wheelchair when needed. 18. Maintains inventory of wheelchairs and retrieves wheelchairs from within the facilities as needed. 19. Assists Grounds department on trash collection days by bundling and getting trash ready for pick-up when able. 20. Drives passenger buses to transport employees and students from offsite lots to Main campus and between campuses. 21. Assists in maintaining vehicles maintenance logs. 22. Keeps passenger buses clean by daily inspections and throwing away of trash left in buses. 23. Utilizes proper radio/phone communication and responds in a timely fashion. 24. Follows practices that ensure the security of car keys that are used by Valet. 25. Ensures Courier Request Board is cleared and communicated nightly if unable to complete request. Ensures van is free of supplies and trash, and is ready for next use. 25. Performs other duties as assigned.
