ER Float Job Details:
  • Work 12-hour shifts: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM or 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
  • Every 3rd weekend requirement rotating between days and nights (Friday night through Sunday night)
  • Every 3rd holiday requirement following permanent staff rotation schedule
  • Float between Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical units as needed
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with CNA support
  • Care for 9 Med/Surg rooms and 3 ER patient bays
  • Must have Emergency Department experience to be considered
  • Required certifications:
BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
  • Ability to admit, discharge, and transfer patients
  • Experience with titrating medications including insulin, amiodarone, cardizem, and levophed
  • Start IVs and work with PICC lines and ports
  • Participate in codes: cardiorespiratory, stroke, and sepsis
  • Respond to trauma situations
  • Read and document own telemetry strips using Mindray monitors
  • Complete EKGs as needed
  • Work independently with minimal staffing and communicate directly with hospitalists
  • Use
MEDITECH EMR
system
  • Voluntary on-call for high patient loads
  • Standard scrubs with no specialty color requirements
  • Typically one week orientation with evaluation based on skill level

This acute care facility provides comprehensive medical services ranging from swing bed rehabilitation to critical trauma care with frequent transport capabilities. The facility operates with nursing as the only 24-hour department, with ancillary departments on-call during weekends and nights. The organization follows EMTALA regulations and utilizes flight transport frequently for higher level care transfers. The facility maintains modern equipment including BiPap, high flow oxygen, and Hamilton T1 ventilators for critical care needs.
