As a Travel Operating Room RN Circulator, you'll have the unique opportunity to enhance your clinical expertise while working alongside a multidisciplinary team in a resource-limited hospital environment. This travel nursing assignment allows you to broaden your skill set by adapting to new workplace practices and diverse leadership styles. You'll play a vital role as the patient's advocate, mastering perioperative care in a critical access hospital, which sharpens your ability to deliver high-level nursing with ingenuity and independence—qualities that will stand out on any resume.
Key Responsibilities:
Champion patient safety: verify identities, conduct pre-op assessments, lead "time-out" protocols, and advocate for anesthetized patients. Prepare and manage the OR environment, uphold sterile technique, anticipate surgical needs, respond to intraoperative events, and maintain accurate surgical counts. Monitor patient vitals and collaborate with anesthesia for optimal intraoperative care. Document all care, supplies, and medications in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards. Participate in on-call rotation and respond rapidly to emergencies or trauma activations. Support postoperative transitions and facilitate safe handoffs to PACU or unit nurses. Adhere to AORN and infection control guidelines, and actively support quality improvement initiatives. Flexibly assist in PACU, pre-op, and other perioperative areas as needed.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited ADN or BSN program (BSN preferred). Valid RN license (NM or compact state). BLS (AHA) required; ACLS required or obtained within 6 months; PALS and CNOR preferred. At least 1-2 years OR circulating RN experience, ideally in critical-access, rural, or small hospital settings. Strong surgical knowledge, proficient with EMRs, excellent critical thinking, and able to thrive independently.
