This role involves providing expert nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods in a fast-paced hospital environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in obstetric nursing, demonstrate exceptional patient assessment skills, and be committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care. This position offers an opportunity to work nights on a 36-hour schedule, contributing significantly to maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Key responsibilities include monitoring labor progress, managing complex deliveries, administering medications, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care. The successful applicant will utilize advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner, perform critical assessments, and adhere strictly to aseptic techniques and HIPAA regulations. Your expertise will support safe labor experiences and positive maternal-neonatal outcomes through meticulous clinical practice. Duties Provide comprehensive nursing care for women during labor, delivery, and postpartum stages, ensuring patient safety and comfort. Monitor fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs continuously using advanced monitoring equipment. Administer medications including analgesics, antibiotics, and other drugs per physician orders while observing for adverse reactions. Assist with various obstetric procedures such as suturing, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes. Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and neonatal teams to coordinate care plans for high-risk pregnancies. Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately within EMR systems like Epic or Cerner. Educate patients on postpartum care, breastfeeding techniques, and newborn care practices. Manage emergency situations including acute pain episodes or complications during labor with proficiency in airway management and IV infusion. Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques at all times. Support triage activities by prioritizing patient needs efficiently in a busy hospital setting. Participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards for maternal health. Requirements Valid RN license in CA with current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NRP, Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring, and Fire Card required. Minimum of two years of recent hospital experience in Labor & Delivery or Maternal-Newborn nursing. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner. Strong knowledge of obstetric procedures including suturing, catheterization, IV insertion, and sterile technique. Experience managing high-risk pregnancies involving complex conditions such as preeclampsia or gestational diabetes. Critical care experience is highly desirable; familiarity with fetal monitoring equipment essential. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients clearly about their care plans. Knowledge of infection control practices and HIPAA regulations ensuring patient confidentiality. Flexibility to work night shifts on a 36-hour schedule in a fast-paced hospital environment.
