Job Description

Position Summary The Truck Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining company trucks and fleet vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operation. This position requires strong mechanical and diagnostic abilities, with experience working on diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic components, and emissions systems commonly found in heavy-duty trucks. The Truck Mechanic will perform preventive maintenance services, troubleshoot mechanical failures, and complete repairs in a timely and professional manner to minimize equipment downtime and maintain fleet productivity. Key Responsibilities Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and emissions-related issues on company trucks. Perform preventive maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and fluid checks. Inspect trucks and equipment to identify potential issues before they become major repairs. Repair or replace defective components including engines, transmissions, suspensions, brake systems, and driveline components. Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics using specialized diagnostic software and tools. Engine and Powertrain Work Diagnose and repair diesel engines including Cummins, Caterpillar, and Paccar engines . Perform repairs related to fuel systems, turbochargers, cooling systems, and emissions systems. Conduct engine performance diagnostics and calibration when required. Electrical and Diagnostic Work Diagnose electrical problems using diagnostic equipment and service software. Repair wiring harnesses, sensors, lighting systems, and electronic control systems. Troubleshoot vehicle fault codes and determine root causes. Inspections and Compliance Perform truck safety inspections and ensure compliance with DOT regulations. Identify and repair safety issues related to brakes, steering, suspension, tires, and lighting systems. Complete required inspection documentation and service reports. Truck mechanics regularly inspect critical safety components such as brakes, steering, suspension, lighting systems, and fuel systems to ensure vehicles remain safe and compliant with federal regulations. Documentation and Work Orders Complete service documentation and repair records accurately. Update work orders with parts used, labor hours, and diagnostic findings. Communicate repair findings to the shop supervisor or fleet manager. Shop Operations Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Properly use shop tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices. Assist with other fleet maintenance tasks as needed. Preferred Qualifications Class A CDL with: Manual transmission endorsement Air brake endorsement ASE Certifications Technical or vocational training in diesel or heavy equipment repair. High School Diploma or GED. Experience Requirements Minimum 3 years of experience working as a truck or diesel mechanic. Experience diagnosing and repairing Cummins, Powerstroke, and Paccar engines . Experience diagnosing gasoline engines Experience working with heavy-duty trucks and fleet vehicles. Experience using diagnostic software and electronic service tools. Required Skills Preferred - Bilingual - English and Spanish Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills. Knowledge of diesel engine systems and truck components. Ability to read repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documents. Experience with electrical troubleshooting and emissions systems. Strong problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently and complete repairs efficiently. Ability to use Autel Scan Tool, Davie 4 Software (Pacaar) and Cummins insite software Physical Requirements Ability to lift heavy parts and tools (up to 75 lbs). Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Work Environment Fleet maintenance shop and field repair environments. Exposure to grease, fuel, chemicals, and heavy equipment. May require occasional overtime or weekend work depending on fleet needs.
Pay:
$32.00 - $42.00 per hour
