Job Description
The Turf and Bedcare Job Position consists mostly of keeping landscape planting beds clean of weeds and fertilization of lawns. If hired, you would have properties assigned to you that you are responsible for maintaining and keeping clean of weeds. We are looking for a person fit enough to bend at the knees frequently to pull weeds and also be able to carry a 3-gallon backpack sprayer to spot-spray Roundup to treat small weeds in planting beds. All turf and bedcare employees are required to wear PPE in the course of applying pesticides, including long pants, long sleeve shirts (provided), long impermeable gloves, boots, etc. This position would also be responsible for providing weed and feed service, applying broadleaf pesticides and granular fertilizer to lawns multiple times throughout the season. Applying weed and feed requires training in and operation of a ride-on spreader/sprayer. Whenever the week's weeding hours are below 40 or bed weeding is out of season, and/or weed and feed for the current schedule has been completed, the position will also comprise lawn maintenance or winter operations duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Fill a normal weeding route (10-20 hrs a week) as a consistent part of the job. Operate a spreader/sprayer to provide weed and feed services as required per the season schedule. Cover weeding routes when another weeder is on vacation or otherwise unable to do their route. Provide any special herbicide applications to areas that have problems outside of what a typical weeding position can handle, such as snake grass, horsetail, or poison ivy Prepare properties for new accounts that are added after the start of the season to bring them up to standard to make a fair transition to a weeder route. Driving a truck and trailer.Applicants should possess:
Great character, integrity, and positivity Personal accountability Strong leadership skills and teamwork ability A drive for Merit-Based Promotion The ability to learn management software Ability to obtain a chauffeur's license, pass an MDOT physical, do a background check, and obtain a pesticide license (commercial or registered applicator license in categories 3a, 3b, and 6).
