Job Description

Camp Nor'wester is looking for dedicated, community-minded leaders to join our summer Leadership Team as one of our Unit Directors! If you are passionate about youth development and have an itch for adventure on Johns Island, we want to hear from you.
The Role:
Why You Matter As a Unit Director, you are the backbone of the camper and staff experience. You aren't just "supervising"—you are mentoring a team of staff to create a safe, inclusive, and transformative environment for our campers. We are specifically hiring for a UD who will oversee our younger units: ages 8-12.
The Details Dates:
June 4th - August 20th.
Salary:
$5,170 for the season ($470/week).
Living:
This is a residential, live-on-site position. You'll live in a shared canvas tent on-site, fully immersed in the beauty of our island community.
What You'll Do Mentor & Train:
Design and lead staff training sessions to prepare our Unit Leaders and Relief Staff for success.
Support & Evaluate:
Provide consistent feedback and conflict resolution to help your team grow their leadership skills. Shape the
Culture:
Work closely with the Leadership Team to manage camp operations, from daily announcements to emergency response.
Foster Connection:
Help resolve camper conflicts and ensure every child feels a sense of belonging in their unit.
Who We're Looking For The Experienced Leader:
You are at least 21 years old and have at least two years of camp staff experience (supervisory experience is a huge plus!).
The Youth Advocate:
You have a deep understanding of group dynamics and youth development for the 9-16 age range.
The Collaborator:
You thrive in a team setting, value equity and inclusion, and are ready to jump in wherever camp needs you most.
The Island Resident:
You are excited about living outdoors (no electricity in tents!) and can handle the physical demands of uneven terrain and Northwest weather.
The Essentials:
Current CPR/First Aid certification and the ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
