Job Description
Unit Secretary - Emergency Department Join our fast-paced Emergency Department team at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC) as a Unit Secretary. This vital role ensures seamless communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers while supporting our nurses and physicians with administrative excellence. Job Summary The Unit Secretary supports the Emergency Department by performing essential clerical and communication duties. Working under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, this position ensures efficient workflow, accurate recordkeeping, and professional communication across all patient interactions. The Unit Secretary helps maintain an organized, responsive, and caring environment for patients, families, and clinical staff. Key Responsibilities Assist with patient admissions and gather required information accurately. Keep the Charge Nurse informed of family requests and patient status updates. Provide friendly, courteous, and professional communication with patients and families. Complete initial portions of Emergency Room (ER) records and ensure accuracy. Obtain required signatures for treatment authorization, surgical consent, and transfers. Review and correct pending departures in the Emergency Department log book. Maintain and update the hospital-wide Physician On-Call schedule. Post surgeries, EEGs, and Proctos in the Operating Room log book. Ensure all ER charts are complete, properly labeled, and signed by the attending physician. Answer and manage calls for the dedicated NARMC physician answering service line in accordance with policy. Maintain the Trauma Dashboard daily, implementing updates immediately as needed. Coordinate Trauma Transfers through ATCC and meet EmResources reporting requirements. Page via Ascom Net for Trauma Activations and Code Stroke events. Communicate critical needs promptly to ancillary departments. Refer any problems or workflow concerns to the Unit Manager. Perform additional related duties as assigned. Job Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Clerical experience with excellent customer service and phone etiquette. Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking). Proficient computer, prioritization, and multitasking abilities. Ability to perform effectively in high-stress situations. Legible handwriting and accurate spelling skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with Meditech software. Knowledge of medical terminology.
Licensure/Certification:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required only if the individual also provides direct patient care (i.
