Job Description

Utility Locate Technician Job Description Summary:
The Utility Locator is responsible for the correct, safe and efficient identifying, locating and marking of Magnifi's fiber network and damage prevention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform utility locates in a variety of locations throughout the day by transmitting a signal onto the cable or wire and following the path above ground with a "receiver," then marking the path with paint and/or flags as required. Read and understand plans, maps, and the electronic equipment to locate underground fiber optic cables. Obtain and review all locate requests and closure of completed requests by due date and time in accordance with state law. Maintain accurate records of all locate requests, including site drawings or photographs. Daily contact with supervisors, managers, excavation crews, homeowners and contractors. Operate company vehicle in a safe and law-abiding manner.
Essential Physical Demands:
95% of job time is spent in a field environment with some administrative work required. Exposure to field hazards such as walking on uneven terrain in dirt, grass or on streets and sidewalks. Moving of materials up to 50 pounds (manhole, vault, pedestal covers or materials). Requires up to 5 miles per day walking. Works with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, dig with shovel. Must be able to work in inclement weather. Qualifications High school diploma or GED certificate Strong mechanical aptitude skills and experience with common power and hand tools Flexible schedule to respond to unexpected utility emergencies Able to work overtime and some weekends Subject to pre-employment background check and drug screen as well as random drug screens.
