Job Description
The Water Treatment Operator is responsible for providing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the Town's water facilities and systems. Utilities Operator w/o licensure starting pay is $20.50 an hour. Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs support activities to include conducting inspections, completing reports, updating records, and operating equipment. Performs duties to include daily facility & maintenance inspections of all booster stations and water towers, filling chemical tanks, recording daily flows, and performing testing, as needed. Collects and tests samples at all water plants and booster stations. Conducts analytic procedures and makes process adjustments as necessary. Records gauge and flow numbers at all water plants and booster stations. Performs water testing and sampling to include preparing paperwork, collecting bacteriological and quarterly samples, and arranges for sample pick-up. Assists with minor repairs and water main breaks as needed. Performs general building and grounds maintenance. Assists other departments, as needed.

Other Skills and Abilities:
The following skills and abilities are either required or desired. The ability to use specialized tools, equipment, and machines to include gauge, calipers, recorders, pitot tubes, calculators, leak detection equipment, pipe locating equipment, meter testing equipment, transit, valve machines, tapping machines, water main sectional maps, saws, cutters, air compressors, loaders, and backhoes is required. A working knowledge of laboratory testing and certification is required. A working knowledge of the chemical and physical processes involved in treatment is required. A working knowledge of the mechanical and hydraulic engineering principles involved in plant operation is required. The ability to detect flows in the operation of mechanical equipment and to determine proper remedial actions is required. A basic knowledge of the processes of modern water distribution is desired. The ability to adapt and conform to shifting priorities and demands and execute accordingly. The ability to remain current with all required licenses, certifications and in-service requirements are required. The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required. The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); working near moving mechanical parts; working in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; the risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. While the offices of the Water Treatment Department are usually open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., this position may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends.
