Exempt Classification N9 Scale•260 days per year, 8 hours per day Anticipated Start Date July 1, 2026 2026-2027 Salary Scales Summary The Maintenance Coordinator provides managerial and supervisory support to ensure all school facilities are safe, well-maintained, and operating efficiently. The Coordinator provides key leadership within the maintenance department and over school custodians while overseeing work orders, warehouse operations, facility inspections, regulatory compliance, energy conservation, and environmental health & safety programs. This role supports capital projects, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and division policies to create optimal learning environments. Qualifications Must possess a high school diploma. At least five years of successful experience in building maintenance, strongly preferred. Must be knowledgeable of the mechanical and other systems found in school buildings. Demonstrates the professional, leadership, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel, service subcontractors, and other internal and external publics of the total school community. Must be knowledgeable of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to school facilities and operations. Demonstrated aptitude and ability for successfully performing the essential functions and responsibilities listed below. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction to maintenance department employees and school custodial staffs. Implement policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Augusta County School Board in cooperation with the Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations. Obtains and prepares job cost estimates as requested. Assists in preparing capital project expenditure estimates for budget development. Oversees warehouse management and effective use of school division equipment and furniture. Provide in-service training to maintenance personnel and school custodians in cooperation with the Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations. Assist in training new school administrators in facilities management and maintenance Coordinates with Maintenance Foreman in approving, scheduling, and assignment of work orders. Review completed work order assignments for time and usage of materials and conduct inspections and evaluations of completed jobs. Must be able to complete reports and show good communication skills through email and other methods. Conduct required Building Safety and Fire Safety Inspections semi-annually, reporting in writing to the Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations. Conduct State Department of Education Safety Audits of school buildings in cooperation with the Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations. Coordinate and oversee the state required annual inspections of boilers and other pressure vessels. Coordinate maintenance and custodial apprenticeship programs in cooperation with the Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations. Maintain current knowledge of local, state, and federal government regulations pertaining to safety, environmental, health, and building code compliance for school buildings. Coordinate the recruitment, selection, hiring, and employment orientation of school building custodians. Cooperates with school administrative personnel in supervising and evaluation of school custodial staff. Receive requests for emergency and unscheduled work and makes arrangements for their prompt service and repair. Develop and implement energy conservation practices for school division facilities. Assist in tracking energy usage in schools and promoting energy conservation at the school/facility level. Supervises and coordinates Asbestos management and environmental management program for school division in cooperation with the Maintenance Foreman. Assists in writing specifications and procurement for division capital projects and/or subcontracted maintenance services. Participates in regional and state professional organizations and their respective activities. Provides plans specific and other document review for school construction projects. Coordinated and oversees OSHA required inspections of maintenance department owned equipment. Oversees maintenance department shop organization, cleanliness, and compliance to industry safety standards. Provide after hours support to school staff when issues arise with building equipment and function. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
LANGUAGE SKILLS
•Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, employees, school administrators and school board.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
•Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
•Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Technical experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and Google Workspace. Skills to organize ideas, time, materials, and space with attention to detail to accomplish goals and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain the strictest confidentiality. Ability to work independently and cooperatively. Ability to exercise sound judgment. Ability to work effectively under pressure/high-stress situations. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
