Job Title:
BIM/VDC Specialist - Electrical Job Description This role focuses on producing and coordinating advanced 3D Revit models for electrical systems on large, complex construction projects. The BIM/VDC Specialist supports prefabrication and field installation teams by delivering highly detailed, constructible models and shop drawings, leading coordination efforts with other trades, and resolving design conflicts through RFIs and collaboration with project stakeholders. This position also provides leadership to a small BIM/VDC team and may act on behalf of the BIM/VDC Manager when required. Responsibilities Produce accurate and detailed 3D Revit models for the coordination and installation of the electrical scope of work. Participate in regular coordination meetings with other trades to identify and resolve clashes while maintaining project budget, constructability, and code compliance. Develop and issue detailed shop drawings from coordinated models to support prefabrication teams and field installers in delivering efficient and successful projects. Prepare clear and well-documented RFIs to identify and communicate conflicts in design related to project coordination and 3D models. Read, interpret, and apply architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans, sections, and elevations with a high level of competence. Confer with the engineer of record and project management staff to resolve technical issues and explain drawings and model details to prefabrication and construction teams. Provide adjustments and updates to models and drawings as necessary based on feedback from engineering, project management, and field personnel. Manage and lead a small BIM/VDC team on large projects, acting as the primary coordination lead for electrical scope. Back up or act on behalf of the BIM/VDC Manager when required, ensuring continuity of coordination and BIM/VDC processes. Advise and mentor other VDC team members to help them develop and improve their technical proficiencies and coordination skills. Develop and manage point layout for robotic total station workflows to support accurate field installation. Utilize cloud collaboration platforms and project coordination tools to manage models, documents, and workflows. Travel to various project sites as required to support coordination efforts and understand field conditions. Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs in all work activities. Perform other related duties as required to support project and team success. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years of experience as a California-certified journeyman electrician and 5 years of experience as a BIM coordinator, OR a minimum of 10 years of experience as an electrical BIM coordinator. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Advanced knowledge of construction documentation across multiple scopes, including specifications, drawings, submittals, and requests for information. Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Revit, including advanced skills such as family creation and template management. Expert skill in 3D coordination with other trades to identify and resolve clashes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu (preferred) and/or Adobe Acrobat for document review and markup. Proficiency in developing point layout for robotic total station workflows. Advanced understanding of cloud collaboration platforms and processes such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Procore, Box, and similar tools. Working knowledge of Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Build, and other project coordination platforms. Ability to effectively advise and coach other VDC team members to develop their technical skills. Strong ability to read, interpret, and coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings. Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with engineers, project managers, prefabrication teams, and field personnel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience leading or managing a small BIM/VDC team on large, complex projects. Experience coordinating electrical systems on major healthcare or similarly complex facilities. Demonstrated ability to maintain constructability, budget awareness, and code compliance during coordination. Experience preparing detailed RFIs that clearly document and track design conflicts and resolutions. Comfort presenting information to small and larger groups and explaining technical content to diverse stakeholders. Interest in long-term project work, including multi-year assignments such as major hospital construction. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in both modeling and documentation. Work Environment This position is 100% onsite and involves work in a typical office environment with regular interaction with project sites. The role supports a long-term, large-scale project, including the construction of a new children's hospital with work expected to continue through 2032, offering stability and the opportunity to see a complex project through multiple phases. Daily work primarily takes place in an office setting, requiring extended periods of sitting, computer use for reading and keying, and frequent verbal and written communication one-on-one, in small groups, and in larger meetings. You will regularly move within the office to retrieve files, collaborate with colleagues, and attend meetings in conference rooms. The role requires the ability to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed. You may occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Visual requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, all of which are important for detailed model and drawing work. The position may require occasional travel by car, as a driver or passenger, to various job sites, where you must be able to safely navigate around active construction environments. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Martinez, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $130000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
