Agency Dept of Agriculture , Consumer Services Division Agriculture Consumer Service Job Classification Title Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician I (S) Position Number 60012731 Grade NC06 About Us The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. Description of Work •This is a readvertisement. All previous applicants MUST reapply to be considered. •The Food Distribution Division contributes to the nutritional well-being of the citizens of North Carolina by distributing USDA foods to eligible Recipient Agencies. Food Distribution administers six food programs for USDA. Duties include performing preventative maintenance and repairs of all Food Distribution Equipment. This includes servicing batteries, tires, brake work, starters, alternators, oil changes, transmission fluid, antifreeze, air lines system and lights on tractors and trailers, reefer units on trailers, light body work, maintaining banners on trailers; and preventative maintenance and maintaining two (2) standby generators. This position is also responsible for installing and maintaining tracking systems on trailers, installing, and maintaining dash cams in all vehicles, and maintaining warehouse doors, freezer/cooler doors, security gates and other tasks if needed. In addition to NCDA Food Distribution warehouse located in Butner NC, there is also an NCDA Food Distribution warehouse located in Salisbury, NC. Periodic visits to this location to perform preventive maintenance and repair will occur on as needed basis as well. Other duties include responding to Food Distribution fleet roadside breakdowns, if such breakdowns occur within a reasonable distance from NCDA Food Distribution facility. Additional duties include daily monitoring of inground diesel fuel and gasoline tank levels as well as above ground DEF storage tank level. A valid North Carolina Driver's License and good driving record are requirements of this position. As an added benefit, applicants who currently don't have a valid North Carolina CDL and if hired will be given the opportunity to train onsite utilizing NCDA Food Distribution tractor/trailer, to obtain a Class A CDL within 12-15 months of hire. Must pass the driver's license check and required pre-employment drug test. Ability to pass a fit test relative to the duties of this position.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range:
$35,596 - $62,294 Knowledge of the techniques and methods involved in diagnosing and solving mechanical issues and the skill level to make the needed repairs. Ability to safely operate various machines that are commonly found in a shop/garage. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and able to work independently as needed.
