Veterans Service Officer Smethport, PA 1 DAYS AGO 22530601 Summary Smethport, PA In-Person Competitive Salary 0 Years Experience No formal schooling No Commission 35.00 hours per week / Day Shift / Full-Time Description McKean County is seeking qualified and highly motivated applicants for the position of Veterans Service Officer in the office of Veterans Affairs located in the Courthouse. Reporting to the Director of Veterans Affairs, responsibilities include: Serves as a local contact between the veteran and their dependents and the United States Department of Veteran Affairs (USDVA). Conducts in-depth interviews with individuals in order to assess their eligibility for various benefits. Verifies military service records and documents for legitimacy, accuracy, and eligibility. Advises veterans and their dependents of federal, state, and local benefits available to them. Aids veterans and their dependents in completing application for benefits. Communicates regularly with claimants regarding the status of their claims. Continues to work with veterans receiving benefits to ensure he/she is receiving potential increases or additional benefits, if applicable. Serves as a local subject matter expert and makes referrals to other agencies when necessary to ensure that all benefits and entitlements are received as provided by law. Provides Power of Attorney services for veterans and their families for issues related to Veterans Affairs. Interacts with federal, state, county, and non-profit agencies. Attends meetings, workshops, accreditation trainings, and various other functions.
Qualifications include:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
College credits in psychology, counseling, or sociology a plus. Previous position(s) involving serving the veteran population highly desirable.
