Full-time Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Pet Medical Services in Orem, UT . The ideal candidate will provide support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality medical care to animals. Responsibilities include assisting with patient care, maintaining cleanliness in the clinic, handling administrative tasks, and ensuring the comfort of pets and their owners.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians and technicians with medical procedures, including examinations, vaccinations, and surgeries. Handle and restrain animals safely during treatments and examinations. Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment. Administer medications or treatments as directed by the veterinarian. Monitor and report any changes in patients' conditions to the veterinarian. Maintain accurate medical records and update client information. Educate pet owners on basic animal care, nutrition, and post-treatment care. Perform basic lab tests and collect samples for diagnostic procedures. Assist with front desk duties, such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and processing payments. Ensure the clinic remains clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
Qualifications & Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent (required); certification in veterinary assistance (preferred but not required). Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting is a plus. Strong animal-handling skills and a compassionate approach. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures. Comfortable working with various animal species and breeds. Physical ability to lift and restrain animals when necessary. Proficiency with computer systems and record-keeping.
Work Environment:
Exposure to animals of all sizes and temperaments. Potential exposure to allergens, zoonotic diseases, and cleaning chemicals. Requires standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift. Work schedule may include evenings, and holidays as needed. We are not open on Saturdays!
