Veterinary Technician

Animal Health Clinic is a locally owned, small animal private practice located in Picayune, MS. We are a busy, fast-paced, full service veterinary hospital that offers a wide range of veterinary services to our fast growing community. We have a young, energetic, hard working, fun loving team that never hesitates to roll up their sleeves and help each other out when we are busy. We also care for after hour emergencies; therefore, our new team member must be willing to take call and work weekends on a rotating schedule. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to our animal patients. Your responsibilities will include assisting veterinarians during examinations and surgeries, performing laboratory tests, administering medications, and providing general care for animals.

Duties:

• Assist veterinarians in examining and treating animals
• Perform laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal analysis
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians
• Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures
• Take and develop X-rays
• Handle animals with care and ensure their comfort and safety
• Educate pet owners on proper animal care and provide guidance on preventive healthcare measures
• Maintain accurate records of patient treatments and procedures
• Clean and sterilize equipment and maintain a clean work environment

Skills:

• Proficient in animal handling techniques, including restraint and behavior management
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology and medical procedures
• Experience with animal catheterization and aseptic technique
• Familiarity with X-ray equipment operation and image development
• Ability to perform basic pet grooming tasks such as nail trimming and ear cleaning
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners and team members
• Experience with equine care is a plus
• Knowledge of dog training techniques is beneficial
