Job Description

1k Sign on BONUS Philadelphia Animal Specialty and Emergency (PASE) is seeking an experienced licensed/certified veterinary technician to join our fabulous Medical Oncology Team. Job Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Treatment
  • Safely administer injectable chemotherapy agents and monitor patients during infusions
  • Safely dispense, reconstitute and dilute injectable or oral chemotherapy agents as appropriate
  • Recognize chemotherapy extravasation and follow appropriate protocols
  • Strong understanding of chemotherapeutic agents and their administration and dose ranges
  • Solid knowledge foundation of canine and feline cancerous processes
  • Provide compassionate nursing care and advocate for hospitalized patients
  • Set up appropriate materials for different chemotherapy administrations (oral, injectable)
  • Apply critical thinking when interpreting laboratory results and notify clinicians as needed Anesthesia
  • Ability to create individualized anesthetic protocols for various patients with the help/approval of the anesthesiologist/VTS
  • Perform sedation/anesthesia for various diagnostics and or treatments as appropriate
  • Induce, monitor, and recover sedated or anesthetized patients
  • Maintain and care for anesthetic equipment Client Communication & Education
  • Provide client education on various oncology disease processes
  • Promptly and efficiently provide owners with financial estimates for treatment and diagnostics
  • Educate owners on chemotherapy safe handling at home
  • Admit oncology patients and obtain thorough histories, including medications, treatment responses, and client concerns
  • Communicate with clients regarding discharge instructions and follow-up care Technical & Medical Skills
  • Understand pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of commonly used medications
  • Recognize abnormal heart and lung sounds
  • Accurately and efficiently place intravenous catheters
  • Perform accurate medical math for CRIs
  • Recognize patients at risk of arrest and initiate CPR following

  • Review and understand medical records pertinent to patient care
Qualifications:
    Preferred:
    Licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT); VTS in Oncology is a plus
      Minimum:
      2+ years of veterinary technician experience, or 2+ years as a veterinary assistant with a strong interest in oncology
      • Fear Free Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
      • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to deliver exceptional client service is expected
      • Highly organized, proactive and efficient
      • Positive outlook and attitude is a must
      • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to developing long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is required

      Schedule:
      • Tuesday-Friday
      • If/when anesthesia (anesthesia assistant at 1st) trained, 1 anesthesia/anesthesia assistant on call shift per month is required
      Job Type:
      Full-time Pay:
      $23.50 - $40.00 per hour
