Job Description

Job Summary This position is responsible for participating in the coordination of assistance to crime victims. Major Duties Types letters and provides victims with information on the Victim Impact Statement and the Crime Victim's Compensation Fund; assists victims in completing required forms. Provides emergency compensation to families of murder victims for funeral services; talks to funeral directors in regard to services; writes letters on behalf of the family to the Attorney General. Keeps victims informed of relevant court proceedings, pre-trials, and trials. Assists victims in establishing restitution totals and in the return of property held by law enforcement agencies. Accompanies victims to courtrooms and other relevant locations when requested. Notifies victims and families of case disposition. Explains criminal court processes and terminology to victims. Refers victims to social service agencies, medical services, and counseling services. Provides training to personnel regarding victims' rights. Prepares required reports. Prepares and makes public presentations on the subject of victims' rights. Makes travel arrangements for victims. Maintains inventory of pamphlets, applications, and forms. Performs any other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of victims' rights regulations and laws. Knowledge of court terminology, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in a course of study related to the occupational field. Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of related experience. Supplemental Information Complexity/Scope of Work The work consists of varied duties in the coordination of victims' assistance. The tragic circumstances associated with crimes contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to participate in the provision of services to victims of crime. Success in this position contributes to the efficient and effective provision of those services. Physical Demands/Work Environment Occasionally Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces. Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Adjusting or moving objects up to 5 pounds in all directions. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Working in low temperatures. Working in high temperatures. Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Working in noisy environments. Working in hazardous conditions. Working in small and/or enclosed spaces. Constantly Communicating with others to exchange information. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Other Requirements/Information Must possess a valid and current Texas Driver's License or a Texas Identification card. Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required.
