Job Description

Responsibilities The Vintage Automobile Mechanics Intern is a structured internship designed to provide hands-on learning in the inspection, maintenance, and restoration of antique and classic automobiles. The intern supports shop operations while receiving supervised training in vintage automotive systems, including fuel systems, mechanical ignition, brakes, steering, suspension, and cooling systems. Key Responsibilities Assist with cleaning, organizing tools, vehicles, and work areas to maintain a safe and efficient shop. Support inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic repairs under direct supervision. Assist mechanics with component removal, installation, and parts handling. Inventory and organize parts and materials. Document work activities, observations, and learning progress. Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE and hazard awareness. Participate in structured training rotations and mentorship sessions. Perform other duties as assigned to support learning and operations. Learning Objectives Develop understanding of antique automotive mechanical systems. Gain hands-on exposure to carburetors, mechanical ignition, and non-electronic fuel systems. Learn basic diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques. Understand preventative maintenance and inspection processes. Build foundational skills using hand and basic shop tools. Develop workplace communication and teamwork skills. Qualifications Qualifications High school graduate currently pursuing a BS degree in Mechanical Engineer. Interest in antique/classic automobiles or mechanical trades. 0-2 years of experience in automotive or mechanical environments preferred. Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn. Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a shop environment. Strong attendance, reliability, and teamwork skills. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods. Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and equipment. Work Environment This position operates in an automotive shop environment with exposure to mechanical equipment, oils, solvents, and various physical conditions. Proper safety procedures and protective equipment are required at all times.
