VTL CNC Operator

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented VTL CNC Operator to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will operate Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL) equipped with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems to produce precision-engineered components. Your expertise in CNC programming, machine setup, and quality inspection will ensure that parts meet strict specifications and quality standards. Duties Set up and operate VTL CNC machines, ensuring proper calibration and alignment for each job. Write, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs using CAM programming software to optimize machining efficiency. Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to produce accurate parts. Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify dimensions and tolerances. Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment, including electrical discharge machining (EDM) tools and tooling adjustments. Read and interpret CAD files created in SolidWorks or other CAD software for part design and machining processes. Use hand tools, power tools, and tooling to assemble components or prepare materials for machining operations. Maintain a clean, organized workspace adhering to lean manufacturing principles while ensuring safety protocols are followed. Operate forklifts when necessary for material handling within the manufacturing environment. Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements related to machining accuracy and efficiency. Qualifications Proven experience operating VTL CNC lathes or similar CNC machinery in a manufacturing setting. Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as Fanuc or other control systems. Familiarity with GD&T principles, blueprint reading, and mechanical drawings. Ability to use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and CMMs effectively. Basic math skills necessary for calculating dimensions, feeds, speeds, and tolerances. Mechanical knowledge related to machining processes, tooling setup, and maintenance procedures. Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or general CAD/CAM programming tools is highly desirable. Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM), plastics injection molding processes, welding techniques, and assembly procedures is a plus. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
